Freedom Riders: 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice  (Pivotal Moments in American History)Fernandina Beach native Raymond Arsenault will lecture on “The Freedom Rides: A Pivotal Moment in American History” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, 11 November at the Macedonia AME Church at Ninth and Beech streets in Fernandina Beach.

Arsenault is author of Freedom Riders: 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice (Pivotal Moments in American History) and the John Hope Franklin Professor of Southern History and co-director of the Florida Studies Program at the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg.

The free program is co-sponsored by Nassau Institute for Community Education, Florida Community College at Jacksonville, the Fernandina Beach Friends of the Library, NAACP Nassau Branch and the Society for the Preservation of African-American History and is funded in part by the Florida Humanities Council. A book-signing reception will follow.
